Description:
As a Rawalpindi- Islamabad based journalist for over 45 years, Syed Shabbir Hussain witnessed events from close quarters in addition to possessing a deep personal knowledge of the personalities involved. The fluent narrative beautifully integrates the non-human and human, national and international factors that derailed each of the three rulers discussed in this poignant book.
'Ayub, Bhutto and Zia- How they fell victims to their own plans', reveals the fascinating story of the rise and fall of the three men who linked the destiny of Pakistan with their own destiny- and when they fell almost everything they had done was undone.
As claimed by the author in the preface this in depth study "provides a total view of the story of Pakistan's politics and the way it has operated to play havoc with the culture and destiny of a people which had guided the course of the entire Subcontinent for almost a millenium."
The author further enlightens us that the present volume was initially titled, 'My Fatherland', however, in the authors own words "the new title lends a specific dimension to it because the three- Ayub, Bhutto and Zia- constituted the main force which could have done what they intended to do with their motherland. Why each of them while possessing unforeseen power and following failed, illustrates some inherent drawback, in the body politic of the country."
Once you start this book you will find it difficult to put down. The book is a must for any one interested in Pakistan's history.
