Description:
This book is a collection of "transport poetry" by S.M. Shaiq. Anyone who has lived in Pakistan and knows Urdu has often been amused by the "poetry" found on the back of all modes of transport, especially rikshaws, minibusses and trucks. The poetry is a reflection of the common man's viewpoint on life, love, romance, wistfulness, poverty, competitiveness and even the worry about making ends meet.
Though a few drivers choose more serious conventional poetry, most is written by self proclaimed poets/painters. Often the verses are free of grammer, rhyme and sometimes even rhythm but they bring a lot of color into the dreary lives of the driver as well as those who read them. There is a great degree of spontaniety and innocence that is apparent in this shairi and, at times, also a sense of self deprecating humor. Many highlight the troubled times facing us all.
Nothing gives an insight into the pulse of any nation than the viewpoint of the common man. A must have for us all, even the connoisseurs of urdu literature.
