Qamar Jalalwi was titled 'ustad' during his life time as he was a master in every aspect of Urdu poetry. However, in 'marsia-nigary' and ghazals, he stood out. His proficiency in the field led him to be recognized as the last poet from the school of 'Mir Taqi Meer'- no small honor.
Qamar Jalalwi lived a modest life. He often kept to himself, contemplating on religion and life in general. Fame didn't mean much to him. His poetry was just his way of expressing how and what he thought about his religion and life in general. So true and dedicated he was to his art that not even one of his poems got published during his life time.
As such having this collection itself is a great achievement and it wouldn't have been possible had it not been for Qamar Jalalwi's daughter, Kaneez Jalalwi, who collected his poems over a period of time and handed them to the publishers.
Surely Ustad Qamar Jalalwi's death has left a great void in Urdu literature which will be hard to fill. But thankfully for us he has left, and his daughter has accumulated for us, some of the richest verses in Urdu Literature.
