Description:
Zia Mohyeddin reads Ghalib's letters.
This 3 cassette set celebrates one of the defining moments of Urdu Literature. Certainly Ghalib's letters contributed towards refining and modelling Urdu in a way that was much appreciated by his friends and contemporaries and continue to impress his modern age fans and critics.
His letter writting style was both unique and inimitable. Contrary to the norm in those days, instead of starting his letters with "Janab-e-Wala", "Kibla" etc., Ghalib informally addressed the recipients as though the recipient was seated right in front of him. The whole letter carried this kind of an informal tone.
Well versed both in Urdu and Persian, his skills are on full display throughout the course of these 3 cassettes. Ghalib himself was so sure of his Persian that in one of the letters, he himself has mentioned that the only difference between him and the Persians was that the Persians lived in Persia while he was in India.
The two main elements that one finds in his letters are his efforts in trying to correct and refine the Urdu used by his friends in their letters to him. Secondly, his sense of humor that takes the listener by surprise especially in the way Zia Mohyeddin exaggerates Ghalib's funny side by using his voice to full effect.
His letters to Munshi Sahib Saif-ul-Haq Mian, Mir Mehdi Dehlvi, Munshi nabi Baksh Haqeer and Mirza Tufta are some of the letters included in the set.
