Zia Mohyeddin is a man of many talents. His long career spans acting, directing, writing, and broadcasting.
Reading is a more recent addition to his repertoire. He started with selections from English Literature on stage, radio and television. One critic noted, 'His voice, it must be mentioned, is worth a profile by itself: a cross between dark brown velvet and gravel moving gently in honey'. It is no wonder then as to why he was chosen by EMI as the connoisseur of the rich and varied literature that one comes across in the CD set.
Mirza Ghalib, Mushtaq Ahmed Yousufi, Mira Jee, Noon Meem Rashid, Akbar Illahbadi and Pitras Bukhari are some of the greatest exponents of Urdu literature, whose work is included in the set.

Review:
The CD set includes some of the greatest moments of Urdu literature. The richness of the content coupled with Zia Mohyeddin's voice renders this collection indispensable for Urdu speaking people everywhere.
Volumes 1 to 3 are a combination of high quality poetry and rib tickling humor. 'Andha Khwab' by Noon Meem Rashid is soft on the ears yet soul-stirring in effect. Rasheed Ahmed Siddiqui's 'Dhobi' and Ratan Naath Sarshaar's 'Saf Shikin Batair' will have the listener rolling with laughter. 'Maee Dada', based on an unusual character and how he got the nickname of 'Maee Dada' carries a similar potential.
In 'Aana Ghar Mein Murghiyoon Ka', Mushtaq Ahmed Yousufi ponders as to why a 'Murghi'(Hen) cannot be kept as a pet. Conclusions are based on comparing a hen to various domestic pets and animals including dogs, horses and even parrots. 'Yagangat' by Mira Jee once again brings the listener back to some serious contemplation.
